since the last post..

my grandfather went for surgery. a partial hip replacement. the surgery went as well as could be expected. since he is, as the doctor put it, "cognitively deficient" he was under close supervision post-op. and unless you're willing to a pay a bomb, the hospital doesn't station a nurse to one patient 24/7. which meant that i'd been spending quite a lot of nights at the hospital.

two wednesday nights ago, the day after thaipusam, i along with the family, went off to india for a short pilgrimage/ shopping trip. car rides in india are an adventure all on their own. highway code?? what's that?? it's all about adjustment and understanding. as our driver was explaining to me. what you really need to learn is how to avoid getting into an accident. which means going really slow when you have an idiot coming from the opposite direction in your lane, because he's trying to overtake that huge bus that is tilting to the left, due to the added weight of 10 people hanging from the door. adjustment also means making a U-turn in extremely heavy traffic.

as for shopping, i got 5 tops sewn and bought 2. they might be unusual, but i like them, the tops i bought, that is. might upload pics of them if i feel up to doing it. it's quite hard to find simple stone ear studs in the jewellery shops there, because earrings there tend to be large chunky affairs. so i ended up getting 2 nose studs, which have now substituted for ear studs.

got back to singapore yesterday, and here i am... had a few thoughts that i was mulling over on the long car rides in india. might write about them here sometime in the future
