was at the hospital the whole of yesterday til about 4 today. my granddad had a fall at around 11am and fractured his hip. the old man is old...turning 90 in april. and he's in what i refer to as his "2nd teen-hood". coz at that point, you think you can do it all, but you are still fettered by the limitations of a child. anyhow, he's in need of a hip replacement, and well... just about any surgery is complicated at his age. there is concern over his ability to go under anaesthesia. and then there are his brittle bones. whilst cutting off the bit that's gonna be replaced, they could fracture other parts of the bone.

it's really quite heart wrenching to see someone who was once sooo dignified being reduced to the state he's in. i stayed with him through the night and ehe imparted to me some jewels that he'd mined from is almost 90 odd years on this earth. wish i'd had a recorder to note them all down... the one guy i love the most...*sigh* fathers are figures of authority who make you champ at the bit, but grandfathers are more like friends. and i do think mine has been 1 of the best a guy could ask for...

i know that it's melodramatic, and a bit over the top to be all fatalistic about it, but at first i prayed that he'd live through it all and come home. but after thinking about it, he's had a long and bounteous life. if it's his time, it's his time. lord, thy will be done...

sting

i actually typed out this post earlier in the day, but my comp decided to go wonky on me, so i'm re-typing it. bugger...

so ya... sting performed in sg on monday night. i'd love to have gone, but i'd have had to buy the 140 buck ticket if i'd wanted to really see his physical image instead of an on-screen 1. and since i lack a sugar mommy (any candidates?? leave a comment and i'll get back to you) i missed gd ole gordon sumner.. that's sting's real name in case you didn't know. anyow to commemorate his visit to sg, i've decided to list my top ten list of songs by him.
  1. When We Dance (the version from the "All This Time" album)
  2. Fragile
  3. A Thousand Years
  4. Fields Of Gold
  5. If I Ever Lose My Faith In You
  6. Ghost Story
  7. History Will Teach Us Nothing
  8. Let Your Soul Be Your Pilot
  9. The Windmills Of Your Mind
  10. The Book Of My Life
the links above are to the lyrics, NOT mp3 links, because as we all know, they are illegal. but you can go to sting's website and listen to some of the above songs.

revelations

peace within can be so elusive. sometimes all that is needed is the answer to that one burning question to settle the storm within, and peace may reign for a while.

a theory was recently proposed to explain some what i considered to be uncharacteristic behaviour on my part. and after thinking about it, i had to agree that the theory probably did explain it. it's interesting how certain mindsets once molded take yonks to be broken.

Hey, hey
Did you ever think
There might be another way
To just feel better,
Just feel better about today

Oh no-
If you never want to have
To turn and go away
You might feel better,
Might feel better if you stay

Yeah yeah
I bet you haven’t heard
A word I’ve said
Yeah yeah
If you’ve had enough
Of all your tryin’
Just give up
The state of mind you’re in...

If you want to be somebody else,
If you’re tired of fighting battles with yourself
If you want to be somebody else
Change your mind...

Hey hey-
Have you ever danced in the rain
Or thanked the sun
Just for shining- just for shining

Or the sea?
Oh no- take it all in

The world’s a show
And yeah, you look much better,
Look much better when you glow

Yeah yeah
I bet you haven’t heard
A word I’ve said
Yeah yeah
If you’ve had enough
Of all your tryin’
Just give up
The state of mind you’re in...

If you want to be somebody else,
If you’re tired of fighting battles with yourself
If you want to be somebody else
Change your mind...
